Those elected from the PSD in the three parishes of Portimão will take the debate on the decentralization of competences in the councils of the municipality to the Parish Assemblies.

This decision to launch "a broad debate among all elected mayors on the powers delegated to them by the Law" was taken unanimously at the last meeting of the Political Commission of the Portimonenses Social Democrats.

In practice, it will be launched "a challenge to the executives of the three Parish Councils of the county to assume in full the powers delegated to them by law, namely the management and maintenance of green spaces, urban furniture and fairs and markets, as well as cleaning roads and carrying out minor repairs in all pre-school and first cycle education establishments, among others», according to the PSD.

This challenge will be made official in letters to be sent to the three presidents of the Junta de Portimão, “so that this will for this broad debate comes from themselves, remembering that these contracts should be under discussion by mid-April”.

"We believe that exercising power in a decentralized manner allows for greater proximity and involvement of more people from Portimão in public choice, which will result in a better adaptation of public policies to the needs and specificities of Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande", illustrated Carlos Gouveia Martins, president of the PSD Portimão.

For the social democrats, the decentralization of powers "allows, also, greater speed in solving the population's problems and the improvement of efficiency in the management and allocation of resources, which will certainly translate into an increase in the quality of the service provided."
