The 4th edition of the Festival das Camélias moves this year to the former Casino das Caldas de Monchique and its surrounding area, with an intense program on the weekend of March 24th and 25th.

«Discreet and full of life, this festival promises to capture your attention and interest, this year in the building of the former Casino das Caldas de Monchique, as well as in the surrounding area. The beauty of the place and the particularity of the natural and bucolic settings of this spa establishment will contribute to this festival gain even more prominence», guarantees the Monchique Town Hall.

The local authority, which is once again organizing this event that has loved the lovers and collectors of that beautiful flower, from all over the county, but also from the rest of the country, announces that this year, in addition to the camellia show, which it is, after all , the main dish of the festival, the program will focus on «performing arts».

And so, promises the Monchiquense Chamber, «we're going to have constant entertainment circulating, we're going to have a concert that brings together piano, guitar, double bass and harp all combined in a single instrument: the Chapman Stick; we're going to have poetry on the loose; we are going to have performances and theaters».

In addition to the camellia exhibition and the handicraft and confectionery exhibition, two items created last year will be maintained: “Ilustra-te” and “Festival Comvida”. «The first invites an artist to create illustrations for the festival, where the camellia is always present. The second item intends to bring the work to the festival. on the spot of artists, through the creation of original pieces for the Festival das Camelias».

But the program will also include the already popular Rota das Camelias, a walking tour in search of the most beautiful flowers in the gardens, public and private, in Monchique, «this year in version peddy paper, with a very peculiar ending».

The Monchique Council emphasizes that “since Camellia is a natural, cultural and heritage icon of the county, it made no sense that there was no moment in its homage and contemplation. After four years, there is certainty and conviction that Monchique is already a reference and that it brings together the distinction of “Jardim do Algarve” and the festival was and is (more) a driver of this attribute».

“That's how it all started: based on the principle that Monchique has differentiating and unique elements and that we would be able to organize something distinct, elegant and dignified. We are sure that we have fallen in love with all visitors, participants and collectors and it is based on this premise that we take off for this 4th edition», adds the municipality, in a press release.
