A part of the cliff between Vau and Careanos beaches, on the coast of Portimão, fell this morning, at 9:00 am, but did not cause any damage to structures.

To what Sul Informação he learned, the Portuguese Environment Agency is monitoring the situation, but it is not expected that there will be any intervention in the fallen rocks, since the landslide took place in an area that, during high tide, had no beach. In principle, the sea itself will clean the area.

A source linked to the Portimão Council said that, due to the storm in recent days, «between the beaches of Careanos and Três Castelos, the sea he ate about 15 meters wide from the beach and three meters high in sand».

In some parts of the coast of Portimo, waves are now affecting beach restaurants, and some of the small tents supporting bathing activities were even destroyed by the fury of the sea. In the Três Castelos beach area, there are already machines working, trying to replace the sand, in order to protect the restaurants.

«Considering the storm that has been felt, it is normal to have these landslides, because the sea he ate the sand at the foot of the cliffs, which are now directly exposed to the waves, while the rain soaked these same cliffs», explained the source contacted by Sul Informação.

Yesterday, the Maritime Authority had warned of the danger of landslides on the cliffs, especially on the Algarve coast. The AM warned the population "to move away from the cliffs and rocky coastal areas affected, avoiding walks both near the base and on top of these places, and must comply with and respect the signs and indications of the authorities."

The area affected by this fall from the cliffs was the same as in August 2014, it had already been intervened by the APA, which led to an emergency controlled collapse.
