drop 1A cliff in an area between Praia do Vau and Praia dos Careanos, in Portimão, was this Thursday the target of an emergency controlled collapse, under the responsibility of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA/ARH).

The intervention took place between 17:00 and 20:30, forcing the Maritime Police to interdict this part of the beach in the afternoon.

To what Sul Informação he found out, on Monday, the APA-ARH received a photo sent by a citizen warning of the appearance of a crack in that area of ​​the beach. From that moment on, this organization activated the means (machines, the Maritime Police and the Portimão Chamber) to clean up the cliff.

drop_2Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, explained to our newspaper that the demolition was made "on a piece of cliff that it was understood could fall at any time and cause possible damage or victims."

Despite the inconvenience and dust caused by the intervention, "it is better to carry out the intervention now that the blocks fall on any less prepared bather", he added.

The APA/ARH caused yet another controlled landslide on a cliff, next to the ecopoint located next to the restaurant «À Babuja», in the riverside area of ​​Alvor.

During the low tourist season, that body responsible for the coast carried out inspection actions that led to several interventions on the cliffs of the Algarve's beaches, to prevent the fall of blocks.
