The Algarve's main living forces and academic experts will come together to discuss the impacts of climate change in the region, in a workshop to be held tomorrow, Monday, 12, between 14:30 pm and 19:30 pm, in the auditorium of the University Campus of Penha, in Faro.

The initiative is part of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) project to create the Adaptation Plan to Climate Change in the South of the country.

Organized by the University of Lisbon, in partnership with the University of Algarve, the meeting will count, at the opening, with speeches by Jorge Botelho, president of AMAL, Luísa Schmidt, of the Social Sciences Institute and Filipe Duarte Santos, one of the greatest specialists and responsible for preparing the Plan.

Academics, representatives of public and private entities, environmental organizations and local and regional associations will analyze the main climate vulnerabilities facing the Algarve, in the various sectors of the economy and society, with a view to defining measures for the future.

O workshop it breaks down into 10 groups, with different themes: Agriculture; Forests; Economy; Energy and Energy Security; Transport and Communications; Health; Security of People and Property; Coastal Areas and Sea; Water Resources and Biodiversity.

The Algarve Intermunicipal Climate Change Adaptation Plan will be completed at the end of 2018 and brings together university officials, mayors and technicians from public institutions, who will, in the coming months, gather knowledge, ideas and proposals to combat situations such as drought.
