The opening of the first beach support rebuilt as part of the redevelopment of Praia de Monte Gordo it should happen by the end of March, according to the Chamber of VRSA.

The municipality says that «the requalification work of Praia de Monte Gordo progresses at a good pace” and “until the summer, the new seafront should have 18 new structures, at which time the second phase of the work will be completed, which includes public and private investment of close to twelve million euros”.

According to Conceição Cabrita, Mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, «at this moment, 6 of the 18 new supports are already under construction, so the progress of the process is frankly positive and we will soon have a fully requalified beach ».

This process follows the demolition phase of the old bars and restaurants, made last December, which are being replaced by equipment made of standardized materials that will remain at the same level as the bridge.

At the same time, the bridge is being infrastructured with supply and drainage networks, as well as the refurbishment of some adjacent leisure areas.

“The goal is to have the beach XNUMX% functional at the start of the next bathing season. I'm proud to be able to say that this is the biggest urban and environmental requalification operation ever carried out in our municipality», says Conceição Cabrita.

The bathing area rehabilitation project, approved by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), contemplates the licensing of 18 concessionaires, being accessible in the future either through the central corridor or along the waterfront.

In this way, «all the entrepreneurs who had activity on the beach and had their situation regularized did not need to submit to a tender, putting an end to the system of precarious licenses that had been in force until now», explains the Chamber of VRSA.

The walkway to the beach of Monte Gordo it is currently the largest of its kind in the Eastern Algarve. With a length of 3 kilometers, it represents an investment of one million euros.

The global intervention (bridge, accesses and restaurants) is estimated at 12 million euros and will allow the completion of all structures and associated equipment.
