A lone English navigator, who was about 30 miles south of Lagos, in a rowing boat, was rescued in the afternoon and evening of February 2, in an operation commanded by the Captain of Porto de Lagos, in conjunction with the Coordination Center of Maritime Search and Rescue of Lisbon (MRCC Lisbon).

According to the maritime authority, the rowing vessel with about 7 meters in length of the lone navigator, 35 years old, was “in difficulties, due to the bad conditions of the sea and with water entering the vessel”. The alert was received in the early afternoon.

The lifeguard “Diligente” from Sagres was immediately sent to the scene. Given the proximity of merchant marine ships, a Maltese-flagged vessel was also asked for help, which, after finding the solitary navigator, "remained in the vicinity until the arrival of the lifeboat".

At around 15:00, the lifeguard «Diligente» picked up the navigator, who «did not have any need for medical care», and towed his rowing vessel, which was safely docked at 23:30 on Friday, in the port. da Baleeira, in Sagres.
