Monchique is present at the 19th International Gastronomic Tourism Exhibition, which takes place in Ourense, Galicia (Spain), until the 4th of February. This year, the event, which began on January 31, has Portugal as the guest country.

As explained by the Chamber of Monchique, "during five days, activities around Gastronomy will be many with varied culinary experiences, exhibitions and tastings provided by the 270 exhibitors and the 15 restaurants present, representing a total of 12 countries."

Alejandro Rubín, director of the fair, says that «this event represents the loyalty between the two countries, Portugal and Spain, in the affirmation of quality Gastronomic Tourism and that it is already today an identifying mark of this territory».

Rui André, Mayor of Monchique, distinguished in a private capacity as a confrere of the Confraria Gastronómica Luso-Galaica, who held its Chapter on January 31, explains that «our council's strategic commitment to Gastronomic Tourism is above all a way of valuing and disseminating local knowledge and culture that results in a differentiated offer due to the quality of the products and their specificity».

The mayor considers that "our participation in this event is also a way to expand the lines of cooperation between these two countries whose tourist flows are increasingly important for both, as well as an openness and relationship with other participating countries."

For Rui André, «the importance of Monchiquense gastronomy as a superior form of promotion and enhancement of the local tourist offer, thus highlights the social and cultural dimension of our gastronomy, as a highly interesting tourist product».

This tourist product «is increasingly responsible for the attractiveness of our territory and, in this event, the participation of the Municipality of Monchique also intends, and in addition to showing what is good in our county, to also promote other products such as Tourism of Nature, Cultural Tourism or the well-known and already promoted in Galicia, Wellness Tourism, with Thermalism which, in Ourense, also represents a specific local characteristic, where the largest Thermalism fair in the world takes place and where Monchique has also been present».
