Luís Batalha is the new Executive Head Chef from Macdonald Monchique Resort & SPA, taking over the management of its four restaurants.

Chef Luís Batalha will join the Macdonald Monchique Resort & SPA team and coordinate the various restaurants that the resort, located almost at the top of the Monchique mountains, offers. starting with fine dining Mon-chic, passing by Pizzeria da Serra, Mercado Culinário and Petiscaria.

In this new challenge, Chef Luís Batalha promises “to be authentic and present a work that dignifies Macdonald Monchique Resort & SPA as well as his entire team”.

As for the choice of the Algarve, the Chef admits that “much more than the climate, I chose this region due to the opportunities it offers to gastronomy professionals”.

Born in Mozambique, Luís Batalha started in the gastronomic world in 1993, having attended different cooking and pastry courses.

In 2000, 2004 and 2007, he won several awards related to the Chef of the Year competition and was also awarded the Chef of the Year award by Helmut Ziebell Innovation Award.

Chef Luís Batalha started working at the Four Season Hotel Ritz in Lisbon, later passing by the restaurant at La Grande Mare Hotel, on the island of Guernsey.

Back in Portugal in 2001, he joined the kitchen team at the Hotel Vila Vita Park in the Algarve and then headed the kitchen at the Hotel Convento do Espinheiro Luxury Collection, in Évora.

Always developing a preference for Portuguese and Mediterranean flavors, in 2005 he coordinated the kitchen team at Suites Alba Resort Algarve.

Already with some connection to the southern region of Portugal, due to the vast offer of products and unique cuisine, Luís Batalha accepted the challenge and joined the CS Algarve group, as executive chef, where he managed all 14 restaurants.

In 2010, he accepted the challenge of leading the kitchen of Cascade Wellness & Lifestyle Resort, ending his duties in mid-2015.

Since that date and until now, Luís Batalha coordinated the kitchen teams of the D. Filipa hotel and their respective club houses, in Vale do Lobo.

In addition to his passion for gastronomy, Luís Batalha has another passion: oil painting. «This method of painting creates in the Chef a feeling of parallelism and connection to the level of technical demand and creativity that the kitchen also requires. All this sensorial involvement linked to art is also transported to the tasting in each meal created by Luís Batalha», stresses Macdonald Monchique.
