«It is possible to transform organic agriculture into a product of great consumption, with policies well oriented to the sector», said Miguel Freitas, Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development, who defends, in this context, «the creation of differentiating mechanisms in the next European Union Community Support Framework'.

Miguel Freitas, who today ends a visit to Biofach 2018, said that «organic agriculture already occupies a large space within the agri-food sector», stressing that «farmers must realize that today it is possible to produce this type of agriculture at controlled costs. , allowing the general public to access these products'.

Biofach, the world's largest fair of biological products, had the participation of 2.950 exhibitors from 140 countries. Portugal was represented by about two dozen exhibitors, most of them led by the Municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, within the scope of the municipality's application to the International Network of Bioregions.

Miguel Freitas noted that «Idanha is developing a very interesting concept of the so-called Bio-Regions, which involves the creation of a community and a municipal policy aimed at implementing a different culture, which is related, among other aspects, to issues environmental issues and energy transition issues'.

"There is a dimension here that Portugal can only follow if companies in the horticultural, wine, olive oil and cereals sector have an exact perception of their capacity to adapt to this new world," said the secretary of state.
