The Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve started its program of the European Year of Cultural Heritage with a Short Course dedicated to Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The course took place in the auditorium of the DRCAlg headquarters, in Faro, from the 15th to the 29th of January (split in five working days), with the scientific coordination of Carla Almeida, professor at the Superior School of Management, Hotel and Tourism of the University of Algarve.

Its objective was «to make known the procedures to be developed for the inscription in the National Inventory of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (INPCI) of the manifestations of the region's intangible heritage».

The course also had the participation of specialists with work already developed in this area – Ana Rosa Sousa (Municipal Museum of Loulé), Emanuel Sancho (Traje Museum of São Brás de Alportel), Laura Carlos (researcher and proponent for the inventory of Festa da Pinha|Estoi a Intangible Cultural Heritage), Vítor Pina (photographer), Maria Manuel Valagão (researcher) and Maria do Céu Baptista (cultural consultant of Mútua dos Pescadores) – who presented concrete case studies and demonstrated the relationship between scientific and theoretical dimension and the practical reality of these heritage manifestations.

This course had the support of ESGHT, where, in the context of practical work, some of the training days took place.

The Regional Directorate of Culture stresses that «the number of people interested in this training was large», even forcing to limit «to 45 the number of those who could attend this course, leaving out many of those who contacted us demonstrating their interest in this training».

Thus, in the auditorium located at the DRCAlg headquarters, «a diverse audience of academics and other sectors of society, including master's students from various universities in the areas of Communication, Heritage and Architecture, Research Centers of Ualg, gathered together, employees of museums in the region, tourism companies, local authorities, CCDR Cultural Associations, in addition to trainees who came from other regions of the country (Sines and Porto)».

DRCAlg's motivation for «promoting knowledge of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, its enhancement and safeguarding» leads the entity to «expect this theme to acquire new dynamics».

«The inventory of cultural events in the Algarve is one of the ways to make known the cultural wealth that this region holds, a relevant factor not only for its safeguarding, but also for enhancing the region as a pole of attraction for visitors interested in culture. local,” adds DRCAlg.

The Regional Directorate also announces that «other initiatives will follow in relation to the European Year of Cultural Heritage» and that will soon be made available on its website, at www.cultalg.pt.
