There will be an Algarvian singing in the final of the Festival da Canção: Diogo Piçarra, composer and interpreter of «Canção do Fim», was the big winner of the 2nd Semifinal that was disputed last night.

Along the way, Susana Travassos, also from the Algarve, sang, with one of the best voices of this festival, «Mensageira» a beautiful song composed by Aline Frazão.

And so the 14 interpreters who will compete in the grand final of the 50th edition of the Festival da Canção, in Guimarães, on March 4th, are already known. The last seven finalists were found this Sunday night, at the ceremony broadcast by RTP.

Tonight's finalists are: Diogo Piçarra (“Song of the End”), Cláudia Pascoal (“The Garden”), Maria Inês Paris (“Blue Flag”), Minnie & Rhayra (“Patati Patata”), Lili (“The Flight”) das Cegonhas”), David Pessoa (“Amor Veloz”) and Peter Serrado (“Sunset”).

In addition to Diogo Piçarra, at the end of the Festival there will be another from the Algarve, as composer: Júlio Resende. Her song «To smile I don't need anything», performed by Catarina Miranda, he had already qualified in the first round for the final of the Festival da Canção.

Diogo Piçarra's song was the favorite of the jury and also conquered the public “at home”, receiving 12 points from both of them (ending with 24 points). The musician thus confirmed the favoritism attributed to him since the 45-second excerpts of the themes were released, with “Canção do Fim” having the highest number of views on YouTube of this second range of songs.

The finalists and winner are found by public voting (50%) and jury voting (50%), in a model inspired by what has been followed by the EBU (Eurovision Broadcast Union) in recent years.

According to the Festival regulations, the first song with the most votes receives 12 points, the second 10 points, the third 8 points, the fourth 7 and so on. From the 11th, all receive zero points.
