The demand for the Archaeological Crypt of the Alcácer do Sal Castle for tourist and educational visits increased in 2017, maintaining the trend seen since 2012.

According to the Municipality of that municipality, this affirms the museum space “as one of the most visited landmarks in the municipality, an unmissable stopping point”.

In 2017, 7.846 tourists visited the Crypt, 13,9 percent more than in 2016, a year that registered 6.889 visitors.

It is national tourists who have visited this space the most, with a 13 percent increase in demand here as well.

Of the total of 7.846 visitors, 6.072 were then Portuguese and 1.774 were foreign, with emphasis on those from the United Kingdom (846), Spain (480) and France (234).

The highest number of visits took place in the third quarter of 2017, with emphasis on those of a touristic nature, whose values ​​grew by 8,7 percent. In terms of teaching, there were 34 more visits than in 2016.

Senior tourism is what is most evident: in 2017, visits by the age group aged 60 years and over almost doubled, having grown by 49,4 percent.

Inaugurated in 2008, the Archeological Crypt of the Alcácer do Sal Castle provides a differentiated reading of 27 centuries of history that intersect in the same underground space.

Its opening hours during the winter are from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:12 am to 30:14 pm and from 17:30 pm to XNUMX:XNUMX pm, with the last entry half an hour before the closing of each period.
