Infralobo will extend the use of untreated water, from underground abstractions, for the irrigation of public green spaces in Vale de Lobo until the end of the first quarter of this year.

As Infralobo explains, the irrigation system already implemented in a large part of the areas of Vale do Ténis and Oceano Clube “allows an annual saving of approximately 52 cubic meters of treated water”.

The expansion of areas covered by this system will allow for a “total annual savings of approximately 157.500 cubic meters of treated water”.

With drip irrigation already implemented and with the use of indigenous plants, «the implemented solutions allow a better adaptation to climate change, in order to reinforce environmental sustainability, without the need to consume treated water for the purposes of watering public green spaces », adds the municipal company.

According to Vitor Aleixo, Mayor of Loulé, «(…) it is essential to establish a strategy to adapt to the impacts of climate change and that safeguards all our human, natural and material heritage».
