The Government chose the Monte da Rocha Dam, in Ourique, to announce, this Wednesday, 24 January, the new Short-Term Intervention Program in Reservoirs, in which intervention needs to expand the storage and storage capacity were identified. improving water quality.

At the Ourique dam, which now has a water volume of only 8%, the main work of this program will then focus on improving water quality.

According to the Câmara de Ourique, the initiative is a «positive step in the construction of sustainable and future-proof solutions for the supply and efficient use of water in the territory of Ourique and Baixo Alentejo».

To this news is added another, already older, that the Municipality of Ourique "effusively" greeted at the end of 2017: the announcement of the obtainment of 260 million euros in financing from the European Investment Bank to reinforce the bet on irrigation , from water storage and for its efficient use.

«The completion of the project to connect the Roxo dam to the Monte da Rocha dam is great news for Ourique and for Baixo Alentejo. This news means sustainability, good management of natural resources and the future», said Marcelo Guerreiro, president of the Chamber of Ourique.
