The Navy will try to get back up the dredger that overturned in Armona bar, in Olhão, before the end of this Tuesday, the 23rd of January, to put the vessel to float "in the coming days".

The removal work of this sand extraction boat started on saturday, but a first attempt to overturn it was unsuccessful, which forced the team responsible for the operation to change tactics.

Second revealed to Sul Informação Commander Nunes Ferreira, captain of the Port of Olhão, the first attempt that was made, on Sunday, did not work. “The dredge did not move. The water column turned out to be short and the balloons could not do their job. The dredger is also more buried aft than we thought,” he said.

This forced a change of approach, namely the use of another type of balloon, which had to come from Lisbon, as well as the removal of some sand.

Today, in an update he made, aimed at the media, Nunes Ferreira revealed that the work continued.

“Right now there are four 20-ton balloons, eight 5-ton and one 3-ton in the water. The east side is being dredged to create a depression to create instability on the side where we want the dredger to fall», said the captain of Porto de Olhão.

Even so, there were some unforeseen events, namely “a balloon that burst and a support gutter of a balloon that bent”, which caused a “slight delay” in the operation.

This means that, if there is any attempt to turn this Tuesday, it will happen "very close to sunset".

Once the team on the ground manages to place the dredger in the correct position, it will only be a matter of days before the boat is able to re-float, which will allow it to be removed from the site.
