Removal work from dredge that turned, last Tuesday, at Barra da Armona, will start this Saturday, from 9:00 am. According to Nunes Ferreira, Porto de Olhão captain, if all goes well, «between Sunday and Monday, it will be possible to turn the dredge again».

Ao Sul Informação, the port captain explained that "this is a complex action and I can't predict when the first attempt will be".

This Saturday morning, "the balloons will be placed and we'll see if everything is in order."

Nunes Ferreira added that, this Friday, «the divers were at the site to buffer everything that is possible and it was decided that it is more risky to remove the fuel now. As there were no leaks and everything is in good condition down there, we decided to change the vessel with fuel».

Regarding the diesel leak that forced the dredger to be isolated to avoid contamination of the Ria Formosa, the port captain said that this has been “identified and rectified. It was a problem with a valve and the leakage was practically eliminated”.

Nunes Ferreira is confident about the success of the operation, not least because "weather conditions are also helping, because it is foreseeable that the weather will remain good in the coming days".
