The lecture cycle “Leituras de Mia Couto” takes place, from February to May, at the Municipal Library of Faro Antonio Ramos Rosa. 

This cycle, which will be the responsibility of Professor José Paulo Pereira, will have four sessions, always starting at 18:00.

The first takes place on February 15th, entitled “The Lioness's Confession and the Gender Issue”.

This is followed by the 8th of March, “Travel and metafiction in The Other Foot of the Mermaid“, on the 3rd of May “Justice and proximity in The Last Flight of the Flamingo” and, on May 17, “Mia Couto: the writing and the language of the other”.

Mia Couto, Mozambican by birth, is one of the most prestigious Portuguese-speaking authors, with a vast and award-winning literary work. Among others, he received the Virgílio Ferreira Prize in 1997, the União Latina de Literaturas Romanesque Prize in 2007 and, in 2013, the Camões Prize.

This cycle «comes to meet the interests of a group of readers (teachers, readers interested in literature and university students), who seek this type of activities as a way to update and reflect on literature, opening horizons and getting to know new perspectives on it. important Portuguese-speaking author», says the Chamber of Faro.
