In pavilion 4 of the main tourism fair in Spain, the Algarve will be present in a destination module integrated in the stand of Turismo de Portugal, sharing a tourist information desk at the stand of Tourism of Porto and North of Portugal.

There, more than 14 Algarve companies will be represented, as well as the University of the Algarve and the Municipality of Tavira.

The Algarve's biggest bets for the 38th edition of Fitur will be nature tourism, active tourism, and gastronomy and wines.

The region will renew its bet on Cycling & Walking, a project launched in 2017, which became part of “Portuguese Trails”, an initiative of Turismo de Portugal to position the country as a favorite destination for cycle tourism and hiking.

"Oh Cycling & Walkingg is one of the many projects that have been developed in recent years in the Algarve, with the aim of developing a varied offer for all audiences», says RTA.

Therefore, at the fair, the Algarve also promotes its natural diversity with the disclosure of the 4th edition of the Algarve Nature Week, which will take place from the 13th to the 22nd of April, and which will show the public the most ecotourist, active and surprising region, through an extensive proposal of nature activities at very attractive prices: from paddle boarding, surf, diving baptism, horseback riding and whale and dolphin watching.

The Mediterranean Diet will also be highlighted in the stand Algarve. Within the scope of the “Taste Portugal” program, Tavira (as representative city of the Mediterranean Diet project in the country) will organize several moments of tasting, in the first three days of the event.

Visitors will have the opportunity to taste the most iconic ingredients of the Algarve cuisine, such as olive oil, salt, figs, almond sweets, liqueurs and regional wines.

«Algarve's participation in Fitur is of strategic importance, within the scope of our mission to promote the region's tourist attributes in the wider domestic market. This is in strong growth and, being a proximity market, it is more receptive to specific initiatives and promotions», says Desidério Silva, president of RTA.

«The increase in air connections between Faro and the main Spanish cities have played an important role in this situation. Fitur is an excellent moment to make our offer known and allow entrepreneurs in the Algarve to do business», he concludes.

In the first ten months of 2017, the Algarve received 3,5% more guests and recorded 5,5% more overnight stays from the Spanish market, compared to the same period in 2016. In October 2017 alone, overnight stays from the market The domestic market showed a sharp increase of 17,8%, while overnight stays from the external markets registered an increase of 3,3%.

Fitur is a global meeting point for tourism professionals and the largest fair for Ibero-American sending and receiving markets. In the 2017 edition, it conquered the participation record with 9893 exhibiting companies from 165 countries/regions, 135.838 professional participants and 109.134 visitors from the general public.
