The Municipality of Albufeira applied for the Helpline for the Provision of Wi-Fi Networks, by Turismo de Portugal, in order to be able to provide more spaces and equipment with free internet, in a project that amounts to 179 thousand euros. If approved, the wi-fi network will reach Praça da República, Paderne Castle, Church of Sant'Ana, Praça and Praia dos Pescadores, Samora Sarros Art Gallery, Largo Eng.o Duarte Pacheco and Praia de Olhos d' Water.

This line of financing from the Government aims to ensure the conditions for access by tourists and other populations to computer content in a faster and simpler way, as well as creating conditions for the emergence of new digitally-based businesses and for the intelligent management of tourist destinations .

«The aim is thus to guarantee the approximation to both the citizen and the visitor, through the implementation of an innovative project of tourism promotion and modernization of free access to information and simplification of public services provided», adds the municipality.

This Helpline for Availability of Wi-Fi Networks has an endowment of 3,5 million euros, and public entities can see their projects financed up to 90%.

This project, called “Albufeira Online”, will have a global investment of around 179 thousand euros and the Municipality foresees a contribution of around 160 thousand euros from the financing line.

Thus, not only does the county “stay in its most touristic spots with internet access, but it can also develop new means of communication so that tourists and the population feel more supported”.
