Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, was reappointed chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Network of Municipalities for Local Adaptation to Climate Change (Adapt.Local), during the meeting that brought together the members of this platform in Vilamoura, at the end of November month.

During the second meeting of the General Council of the Adapt.Local network, the members of the platform bodies for the 2018-2021 quadrennium were chosen.

In addition to the municipality of Loulé, which presides over the body, the municipalities of Torres Vedras and Tondela were also appointed to the Coordinating Council. For the Board of the General Council, the municipal councils of Odemira, Funchal and Guimarães (which he presides) were chosen.

“At this meeting, it was also decided to prepare an action program for the next four years which, focusing on the strengthening of policies, action and governance in the framework of adaptation to climate change that are increasingly being felt at the local level, will be presented and debated by General Council in the first quarter of next year”, according to the City Council of Loulé.

This meeting was held under of the Adapt.Local.17 seminar, which brought together several national and international specialists, as well as municipal officials and technicians from across the country, and addressed topics such as “global and national climate scenarios that have a long-term perspective; instruments and methods for adaptation; sectoral adaptation, in the areas of forests, water resources, tourism and coastal zones; and, inspiring experiences at the international level».

Vítor Aleixo was already president of this network of municipalities since its creation, in March 2017, and has been, according to the Chamber, “one of the country's mayors who has been at the forefront of this cause, with Loulé being a pioneer municipality in the implementation of measures aimed at adapting to climate change'.
