The delivery of the VMER (Emergency and Reanimation Medical Vehicle) vehicles for the renewal of the Portimão and Albufeira fleets took place this Thursday, at the Portimão unit of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve.

The ceremony was attended by the Board of Directors of CHUAlgarve, the VMER Teams of the institution and the Regional Directorate of INEM, who, in their interventions, highlighted the «importance of the acquisition of these two vehicles to reinforce the response to urgent requests for medical assistance and provide the Integrated Medical Emergency System (SIEM) with robustness and adequate conditions for its normal operation».

Unlike the other VMER, which belonged to INEM, these two new vehicles belong to the Hospital Center's own fleet.

With these new vehicles, the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve «responds to the commitment assumed to continue to ensure the pre-hospital response, maintaining the current operational rate, which is above 98%, higher than the national average», stresses CHUA in a press release.

These vehicles are part of the 22 VMER whose acquisition contracts were signed at a ceremony that took place on 9 October in the presence of the Minister of Health Adalberto Campos Fernandes and representatives of the 21 institutions of the National Health Service to which they are intended.

VMER is a pre-hospital intervention vehicle designed for the rapid transport of a medical team to the patient's location and which has Advanced Life Support equipment. It works directly under the Guidance Centers for Urgent Patients (CODU).
