Concerts by David Fonseca, Dead Combo and Pedro Abrunhosa and a conversation with Eunice Muñoz are some of the proposals of Cine-Teatro Louletano for the next season from January to June 2018.

This is a program that continues to be «guided by criteria of quality, diversity and originality/boldness, increasingly asserting this cultural space in Loulé as a medium-sized room of reference in the cultural panorama of the south of the country», says the Chamber of Loule.

Starting with music, «where the commitment to premieres in the Algarve, in Loulé, of new records by renowned national composers, but also of others linked to a more alternative circuit that is fundamental to make known in a perspective of democratization of the access to culture'.

Thus, in addition to more famous names such as maestro Rui Massena (February 18th), Dino D'Santiago (June 9th) or Pedro Abrunhosa (June 16th and 17th), the new albums by Linda Martini are presented in the Algarve. (March 9,), Mazgani (March 24) and Dead Combo (May 17).

The national première of David Fonseca's new record work is on May 9th, in Loulé.

There will also be three «very special» shows: the long-awaited return of singer and composer Fausto Bordalo Dias to the Algarve, in a concert that is imminent (1st February), the renowned fado singer Ricardo Ribeiro singing José Afonso, accompanied by a connected quintet to the world of Jazz (on the 24th of April) «and the prestigious Filipe Raposo and Filipe Melo, in a complicity of two pianos, to celebrate in the best way the International Day of Jazz, on the 30th of April».

Within the scope of the musical cycle “O Longe é Aqui”, in which, since 2016, «more than ten unprecedented meetings (artistic commissions) between talented Loulé musicians and renowned figures of the national scene have already been held, three more unique concerts are coming».

One, in which the official presentation of the current season will be made initially, «with the contagious jazz diva Maria João and the inspiring Algarvian female singing project a capella Moçoilas (on 14th January), another, on 6th May, which brings together a group of mandatory reference in the area of traditional Portuguese music (reinvented), Ronda dos Quatro Caminhos, with the young fado singer from Loulé, César Matoso».

Finally, closing this semester, there is «a very special show that marks the reunion of the promising young man from Quarteira, Bertílio Santos, with the singer Aurea, on June 22, in Quarteira».

Still in the musical area, «the introduction of a new cycle dedicated to classical music – a regular and continuous investment in the Cine-Teatro's programming –, “Clássicos na Avenida”, in a co-production between the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, the Municipality de Loulé and the Tivoli BBVA Theater (in Lisbon)».

In this program there is also space for the area of art for early childhood (babies, parents and professionals who work with this age group), through the partnership with prestigious performance structures nationwide, in this case the Musicalmente company (based in Leiria).

«This partnership is implemented in three aspects: presentation of differentiating and innovative shows of a multidisciplinary nature and accentuated contemporaneity, holding conferences and debates, where musical development and artistic creation for early childhood can be debated and continuation of the commitment to dimension training – a large gap in the region – aimed at animators, educators and other mediators who work with babies».

The bet is also based on a collaborative network that has been involving the University of Algarve (Higher School of Education and Communication) and the crèches and kindergartens in the municipality of Loulé.

The musician Ricardo J. Martins, who lives in Loulé, will also present his new Portuguese guitar album “Cantos e Lamentos”, with several special guests, at the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation (Querença) on 13 January.

With regard to the school community and families, «the Cine-Teatro continues to present performative proposals» based on the «art-education-citizenship triangle, contributing to the awareness of the little ones to the issues of civic practice, ethics and other values alike'.

Hence also the pursuit of creations, in the areas of theater and performance, which focus on themes related to national and international current affairs, crossing the areas of History, Sociology and performing arts, in this case through the continuation of the long-term cycle " Silent Stories”, started in 2017, and aimed at both the general public and schools and families.

Within the scope of this thematic cycle, the shows “Cartas de Damasco”, by Ana Lázaro (27 and 28 February), “Isto é a Europa”, by Teatro O Bando (27 March, World Theater Day), will be presented this semester. and “Mapa”, by Fernando Mota (17 and 18 April), which has an informal group of guests (from the public) who have been monitoring, commenting and contributing to the programming of the proposals included in this cycle.

Also in the theater area, the highlight was the presentation of the play “Actores”, staged by Marco Martins and with a luxury cast consisting of Bruno Nogueira, Luísa Cruz, Miguel Guilherme, Nuno Lopes and Rita Cabaço, and the version of “A Tempestade”, by Shakespeare, by the disturbing company João Garcia Miguel.

«The biannual agenda now presented also reflects a growing insistence, gradually, in the area of contemporary dance, through premieres in the Algarve of interdisciplinary shows by renowned national (and international) companies that normally do not present their creations below the Tagus river, as well as in other areas of dance more aimed at a general public, such as Flamenco (12th and 13th May) and Tango (3rd February and 16th and 17th March)».

A word also for the permanence of regular items that are based on reflection and debate around themes related to culture, arts and letters, as well as on the appreciation of local figures with a unique and relevant path (respectively, the formats “Conversations to the Farm ” and “Dos Sabores da Cultura”), in this case with the guests Paulo Lameiro, José Laginha and, in June, the consecrated Eunice Muñoz, who celebrates this year 90 years of life.

«Cinema is not forgotten either, with several reference events that bring to Loulé a quality offer in terms of Cinema (Monstrare, Latin American Film Festival and Italian Film Festival), as well as various formats dedicated to the humor that in this The semester has the following special guests: Filomena Cautela, Pedro Tochas and Fernando Alvim».

Finally, the 3rd edition of Som Riscado – Loulé Music and Image Festival should be highlighted, «which brings new and stimulating dialogues between music and image to Loulé, as well as captivating exploratory journeys around the art of sound, in a event that strongly invests in contemporary creation and programming aimed at more segmented/alternative audiences».
