The Chamber of Faro it may unlock the construction of the access between the roundabout next to the (future) Leroy Merlin store and the east side of the MAR Shopping mall.

The construction license for the construction of accesses to MAR Shopping in the territory of the municipality of Faro was sinker in the previous term, by the votes against the PS and the CDU, which had a majority of councilors in the Chamber, but the situation changed with the elections of 1 October.

The coalition Faro in Rumo Certo, which supported Rogério Bacalhau, won the majority of councilors and the president of the Chamber provided an interview with Sul Informação that “it is possible, at this moment, to solve the problem. The equipment [MAR Shopping] is there and we have to live with it».

The mayor considers that "this is an issue that we have to resolve" and recalls that, "at the time, we were not the ones who made the situation unfeasible".

Currently, whoever drives towards Faro-Loulé and exit on the EN125-4, towards the shopping centre, you will find a roundabout whose third exit is blocked.

This exit would give access to the east side of the commercial center, but, due to the Farense lead, the road has not yet been built. Motorists are then forced to bypass the entire complex to reach this area, which is about 300 meters from the roundabout.

The east side of MAR Shopping is also used for loading and unloading of some stores, which forces trucks to take the same longer route.

For Rogério Bacalhau, «the issue of MAR Shopping, and of move that it might do to local commerce, has to be fought in another way, because it is already a reality. It is in this sense that we have been working, creating conditions for people to come to the municipality of Faro, so that our trade is stronger'.

It is with this objective in mind that «measures such as the Baixa Street Fest and other activities were created, which we will now have at Christmas, in partnership with ACRAL, AIHSA and Comércio da Baixa. That's where we have to go», concludes Rogério Bacalhau.
