The City Council of São Brás de Alportel and the Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT) reached an agreement so that the Park of Maneuvers, whose exterior space is currently abandoned, be remodeled.

The idea of the City Council is, for example, to «develop, in the approximately 20 square meters of the area, located in the Calçada zone, a multi-sport space, which will include a two-wheel sports support center, a municipal arena, and common spaces for the most diverse modalities».

«Another hugely relevant project to be created in this location will be the Regional Center for the Training of Firefighters in Urban Fire, being the second in the Algarve», he adds.

The site will also serve for the development of other projects, "which prove to be of interest to the community", and which will be developed in partnership with specialized entities, such as the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of São Brás de Alportel and the National Authority of Civil Protection, the Portuguese Cycling Federation and local associations from the most diverse areas.

The protocol for the transfer of the land, free of charge for a period of 50 years, was signed in 1999 by the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel and by the then designated General Directorate of Traffic, with a view to building a center for exams and, in the outer space, a traffic school for road education for the youngest layers of the population, especially of school age.

At the time, this protocol was part of a national pilot project that led to the construction of 18 spaces with the same characteristics.

The infrastructures were built, “but the building for theoretical examinations, which the Institute of Mobility and Transport, will continue to use, remains in operation until today”, says the municipality.

In outer space nothing was created and streamlined.

«Given the lack of use of the outer space and the lack of maintenance, the local authority has long taken steps that led to the signing of an addendum to the protocol, which will make it possible to streamline the remaining space and make it available to the São Brasense population with new skills», explains the City Council.

The addendum, signed by both entities, will be in force for 25 years, and may terminate in advance if denounced in writing one year in advance by both parties.
