The deputy of the PSD Cristóvão Norte confronted the Government with the increase of airport taxes at the Airport of Faro by 25 cents (3,1%), an increase “much higher than those that will be applied in Lisbon and Porto”.

The social-democratic parliamentarian elected by the Algarve said, in an intervention in the Assembly of the Republic, that this decision could «produce a slower growth of passengers in Faro», stressing that «no one understands» why the greatest increase is occurring in the Algarve, when «Lisbon and Porto are growing the most».

For Cristóvão Norte, the value of this fee plays an important role in the region's competitiveness, “especially in low season”. "The Government has the obligation to verify that the parameters for updating the rates are being scrupulously observed, as the region must not bear charges that do not fall within it", he defended.

This is because one of the assumptions of the management model was «the preservation of competitive rates in the rates to be applied in the region, so that our main activity was valued, not harmed».

«The variation in the set of rates regulated by ANA translates, in annual terms, into an average increase of 1,97%, in Faro the rise will be 3,1%, 2,19% in Porto, 1,94% in Lisbon and 1,18% in the Azores”, framed the social-democratic deputy.
