CRIA – Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer of the University of Algarve (UAlg) participated in a meeting of the “PROteuS” project, which wants to create a cluster Mediterranean maritime surveillance, carried out in Valencia (Spain). 

The main focus of the meeting was, among other project activities, the creation of this cluster Mediterranean maritime surveillance "to increase innovation and research and development capacities, the transfer of knowledge and technologies, and international cooperation between the actors involved, especially with regard to security and surveillance mechanisms in the Mediterranean", explains the UAlg .

"Oh cluster will aim to foster business opportunities and explore the market potential of the maritime surveillance industry, such as, for example, monitoring of passenger and cargo traffic, border control, fisheries control" and "minimization of environmental risks"

In order to provide specialized technical knowledge relevant to the implementation of the cluster of maritime surveillance in the Mediterranean, there was also a meeting with the Scientific Committee composed of project partners and external experts.

João Vargues was the expert invited by the University of Algarve to be present on the committee, representing the Association for the Promotion of Knowledge and Economy of the Sea in the Algarve (Mar Algarve), an associated partner of “PROTeuS”.

The “PROTeuS” project is financed by the “Interreg Med” program of the European Union, under priority 1 – promoting innovative capacities in the Mediterranean area for the development of smart and sustainable growth, and specific objective 1.1: to increase transnational activity in clusters and innovative networks of key sectors in the Mediterranean area.
