The eighth edition of the Algarve Design Meeting will take place from the 22nd to the 26th of May, having as its center the Fábrica da Cerveja, in Faro, with conferences, exhibitions, workshops, shops pop-up, cinema and videomapping.

This Algarve Design Meeting (ADM), which promotes Portuguese and international design, enhancing the connection between designers, companies, academia, industry and society, has been organized since 2011 by the University of Algarve-ESEC, in partnership with the Municipality of Faro and the National Association of Designers.

«In order to reinforce the potential and value of design (giving it the prominence and visibility it truly has), the city of Faro it becomes the international capital of design, where researchers, professors, professionals and the general public can, through various structured activities (seminars, workshops, exhibitions, cinema, pop-up stores, videomapping, etc.), have contact with various projects, and talents in this sector of the creative industries, fostering knowledge among the different groups in our society», stresses António Lacerda, head of the organization..

In recent editions, ADM has promoted «not only design in all its forms of expression, but also the Algarve region, placing it on the map of international design events».

ADM has already been present at the Municipal Museum of Faro, at CCDR Algarve, at the Municipal Museum of Loulé, and, in the last two years, it was held in the emblematic building of the former Fábrica da Cerveja, in Faro.

During these last seven years, the Algarve Design Meeting has already promoted «more than 60 exhibitions, around 30 workshops, had more than 120 national and international guest speakers at the conferences (teachers, researchers and professionals) and had more than 10.000 visitors, promoting design as an area of ​​innovation and strategic intervention, fundamental for social, cultural and economic development».

During the last four editions, ADM created the Videomapping Festival, which ends with the end of its programming. This is a large-scale festival of sound and image, which is projected onto the façade of the Igreja da Sé, in Faro, works by students from several national and international Universities: School of Education and Communication of the University of Algarve, University of Tomas Bata, Czech Republic, Faculty of Architecture, University of Lisbon, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto and University of Aveiro.

ADM has had the institutional support of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, Municipal Council of Faro, University of Tomas Bata – Czech Republic, University of Aveiro, University of Porto, Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, Museum Zero, Architectures Film Festival, Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Faro, support for dissemination through Rua FM, Sul Informação, 365 Algarve, LCPA and Barlavento, and as sponsorships the Hotel de Faro, Tertúlia Algarvia, Multicopias, Al-Gharb, Brands Digital and Digidelta.

«This is a work of continuity and a long-term constructive result, which has become a reference in the dissemination and promotion of design, by the University of the Algarve, and which also has the mission of affirming the southern region of the country on the map of major events in the field of design», adds António Lacerda.
