The first public presentation session of the “Quarteira EcoLab” project, which aims to implement a “Living Laboratory for Decarbonization” in that city, took place on 16 October, at the Municipal Center of Quarteira.

“Quarteira EcoLab” wants to promote the decarbonization of a delimited area in the city of Quarteira, through the implementation of technological solutions that increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption, promoting sustainable mobility and more efficient use of resources.

The Municipality of Loulé has already defined, as an intervention area for the “Quarteira EcoLab”, the urban extension located between the Polvo roundabout on Avenida Carlos Mota Pinto and the roundabout at the Bus Terminal on Avenida Francisco Sá Carneiro.

This is where solutions in the fields of transport and mobility, energy efficiency in buildings, innovative environmental services and the promotion of the circular economy will be integrated, among others, «in a logic of interaction between the Municipality, knowledge centres, companies, industries and citizens,” explains the City Council.

The objective is “to assert itself as a low-carbon, resilient, accessible, participative and connected environment”, adds the Loulé local authority.

This presentation session, which was attended by close to fifty residents, was held with the aim of making the project and the challenges of the “Quarteira EcoLab” known to the community, as well as promoting the involvement and participation of the population in the same.

It was also an opportunity to collect contributions as participants were able to leave their suggestions and ideas for the project.

However, the autarchy “intends that all interested parties can follow and participate in this process, namely residents, merchants, visitors and other users of that space”.

Therefore, there are two questionnaires (one aimed at the general population and the other at merchants), through which the aim is to get to know better the habits and opinions of those who reside, work, study or visit the urban space of the “Quarteira EcoLab” , with regard to the themes of mobility, energy and environment.

Questionnaires can be answered on paper at the Quarteira Parish Council. You can also do it online. If you live, work or study in the “Quarteira EcoLab” area, the link is East. If you already have a commercial or service establishment in that area, the questionnaire to fill out is East.

To answer questions about electricity, water and gas consumption, residents must have their annual bill or bills that include the first half of January, April and August.

It is also possible to send ideas and suggestions to [email protected].

This is an initiative of the Municipality of Loulé, arising from its Municipal Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (EMAAC de Loulé), and framed in an application to the Environmental Fund of the Ministry of Environment.
