The Association of Forestry Producers of Serra do Caldeirão, headquartered in Barranco do Velho, is preparing an application for the constitution of two new Forest Intervention Zones (ZIF), in Serra do Caldeirão, in São Brás de Alportel.
The proposal is for the ZIF II (Arimbo) to cover the southernmost area of the mountainous area of the county, integrating the sites of Arimbo, Pêro de Amigos and Cova da Muda to Javali, and the ZIF II (Cabeça do Velho) a «vast area to the north of the county, with a perimeter that integrates Cabeça do Velho and Parises)», explains the City Council of São Brás.
This opportunity to create two ZIF comes within the scope of the National Plan that is in progress, and the notice of opening of applications was published on 2 October.
«The constitution of the Forest Intervention Zone urgently needs a founding nucleus, with a base of 180 hectares, so at this moment it is essential the adhesion of the largest number of landowners until Thursday, October 12th», says the Chamber of São Brás.
The creation of these two new Forest Intervention Areas «will reinforce the work of protecting the forest against fire, complementing what has been developed in the only existing area so far: ZIF I (which includes Javali, Menta, Corgas) Bravas, Boiça, among other places)», he adds.
These Forest Intervention Zones «have a fundamental role in the management of the forest territory, allowing landowners in these areas to be represented by a competent entity to create action plans and prepare applications for national and community funds, which strengthen the capacity to intervene in the territory".
Adherence to a Forest Intervention Zone is free and the owner of land integrated in this area can benefit from support for cleaning and valuing their properties, provided for these zones thus constituted.
To add their land to these new Forest Intervention Areas, owners only need to present themselves at the association of forest producers (in Barranco do Velho) or at the City Council of São Brás de Alportel, accompanied by the respective booklet of the property(s) to express your interest.
Owners and interested parties can consult maps of future Forest Intervention Zones at the São Brás de Alportel City Council or at the headquarters of the Serra do Caldeirão Forest Producers Association (APFSC).
