A man died this afternoon at Praia da Arrifana, in Aljezur, after having fallen overboard while fishing on a rock with two other people. His companions even threw themselves into the sea to try to rescue him, but they ended up having to fight for their lives themselves and ended up being rescued from the rocks by an Air Force helicopter.
As the spokesman of the National Maritime Authority Pedro Coelho Dias revealed to Antena 1, the three recreational fishermen were on a rock when one of them fell into the sea. "It was accidental, but we still don't know what caused the fall," he said.
The two men who were with him "went after him, but ended up being dragged and isolated on a rock."
A fourth man, who will have witnessed the accident, still managed to pull the first fisherman who fell overboard from the water, 40 years old, with the help of a rope, but no longer alive.
“The other two fishermen are safe. They were rescued by air by a helicopter of the Portuguese Air Force», he added. The two were injured without seriousness and were transported to the Hospital of Faro.
