Loulé: Integrated Continuing Care to be discussed at a regional meeting

The “Regional Meeting of Integrated Care of the Algarve”, under the theme “National Network of Integrated Continuous Care of the Algarve – Caring in Safety”, takes place on November 17, in the auditorium of Instituto Superior Dom Afonso III (INUAF), in Loulé. 

Manuel Lopes, National Coordinator for the Reform of the National Health Service in the area of ​​Integrated Continuing Care, will be present at this event, who will make a communication on the theme "New Scope of the RNCCI" and two members of the National Coordination Support Team: Miguel Narigão, who will talk about “Continuing Integrated Mental Health Care”, and Carla Pereira who will address the theme of “Functionality at RNCCI”.

It will include a table entirely dedicated to medication safety, with interventions by Renato Santos, doctor of the Regional Coordinating Team for Integrated Continued Care (ECRCCI), and Carminda Martins, pharmacist at the University Hospital Center of Algarve (CHUA), related to “ Therapeutic Qualification – Benzodiazepines” and “Pharmacotherapy in the elderly”, respectively.

Issues such as returning home will also be addressed, with presentations by Sónia Pimpão, from the CHUA Altas Management Team (Faro), and Conceição Simões, representative of the District Center of Faro of the Social Security Institute at ECRCCI, and the “Informal Caregiver Overload in ECCI”, with the results of a study carried out by the Integrated Continuing Care Teams (ECCI) of the Sotavento Group of Health Centers (ACES), which will be presented by nurse Marco Sousa, coordinator of the Community Care Unit (UCC) Santo António d'Arenilha, and nurse João Gil, from the Continued Care Unit (UCC) Talabriga.

The experience of the pilot ECCI in Évora «ECCI 24 Évora» will be presented by the coordinator Ana Carla Coelho, who will come to share the challenges faced by home-based teams.

The Meeting will end with a table addressed to the National Plan for Patient Safety 2015-2020, with interventions from the Algarve's Inpatient Units.

This Regional Meeting of the Algarve's KICs aims to contribute “not only to improve the quality of integrated long-term care in the Algarve but also to maintain the team spirit and partnership that has been the hallmark of our region”.
