A free screening of skin diseases, promoted by the Chamber of Castro Marim, between the 18th and 20th of October, evaluated 200 people in the four parishes of the county.
According to the Chamber of Castro Marim, “particular attention was paid to cancerous and precancerous lesions”.
In this action, which took place after the end of the bathing season, «some skin diseases were diagnosed, now medicated and guided».
The pre-cancerous lesions (actinic keratoses) detected were treated on the spot with liquid nitrogen, «to avoid overloading the dermatology service of the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, where the tumor lesions found are forwarded», says the municipality.
This initiative, integrated in the health and social action policies of the municipality of Castro Marim, is supported by the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve and by the Sotavento Health Centers Group.
