A walk, which is also a «nature discovery tour», will introduce you to the wetlands of Trafal and Foz do Almargem, in Quarteira, next Sunday, 29 October.

The initiative is part of the REASE project (Environmental Education Network for Ecosystem Services), promoted by Associação Almargem, in partnership with other entities.

For the environmental association, Lagoa do Almargem is a wetland that «should have been classified as a protected area for a long time, due to the natural values present there», so this walk, which will show the cultural and natural heritage, is also an alert for the future of that area.

João Santos, from Almargem, explained to the Sul Informação that «what people will see is the lake, the state it is in, a situation that has been maintained for 30 years, what remains of Fort Novo, the Fonte Santa de Quarteira, another place that is completely abandoned…».

The walk will also pass through the Trafal area, «which has a relationship with another theme of the project: the Ribeira do Cadoiço, in Loulé, which changes its name to Ribeira de Carcavai, and which flows into Trafal, next to Vale de Lobo» .

João Santos considers that «we must talk about the situation of the pine forest that exists in Trafal and at the mouth of Almargem and the whole future of that area».

Participants will also be able to «see what is left of Loulé Velho. Thirty years ago, people still remember seeing the ruins there, and now they don't see anything. The cliffs were being knocked down and now practically nothing is left».

Registration for this walk, free of charge, with a length of 7 kilometers, is open until the 27th, at 12:00, through the email [email protected] or the telephone numbers 925 481 986 and 289 412 959.

The meeting point, in Loulé, is the Duarte Pacheco Monument, at 8:45 am and, in Quarteira, it will be the parking lot in front of the Forte Novo restaurant, at the eastern end of the city, at 9:30 am.

The walk is performed by ProActivetour.

The REASE project (Environmental Education Network for Ecosystem Services), financed by the Environmental Fund, «has as its main objective to train teachers and other technicians in Environmental Education in the Algarve, to raise awareness among children, young people and the general population about its importance. of ecosystems as service providers at the level of the Planet and of Humanity», explains Almargem.
