Tecnovia, a company in the construction sector, bought the limestone quarry at Quinta do Escarpão, in Ferreiras (Albufeira), in an investment of 500 thousand euros that will reinforce its presence in the Algarve. So far, 14 jobs have been created, but the number could reach «20 to 25».

The forecast is advanced by Alexandre Pereira, industry director at Tecnovia, who explained to Sul Informação what the quarry will produce: «we are going to sell gravel, sand, stone dust and tout-venant».

The purchase of the exploration of the quarry cost the said 500 euros to Tecnovia, but there are «more investments to be made», revealed the official.

The goal is for the quarry to produce 300 thousand tons per year. For the future, the intention is “to increase the industrial offer of Quinta do Escarpão to also have a concrete and bituminous plant”, said Alexandre Pereira.

This limestone quarry, previously operated by the company Costa&Costa, «aims to respond to the needs of the construction market in the Algarve».

What is certain is that the quarry is already “working, selling and attracting customers”, including some Municipal Councils in the Algarve.

According to Tecnovia, the objective is to “continue to actively contribute to the economy and the labor market in this region of Portugal”.

Even because the company “has Algarvean DNA,” Tecnovia's industry director told our newspaper. «We were the first company to have a bituminous plant in the Algarve, we were involved in the construction of the A22, for example», he exemplifies.

The materials produced by Tecnovia were also used in the works at the Airport of Faro.

Under the motto “We do more than you imagine”, Tecnovia, with this new production center in the interior of the municipality of Albufeira, says that it asserts itself «increasingly as one of the largest suppliers of aggregates, bituminous mixtures and ready-mixed concrete of the country, strengthening its activity in the construction sector».

In the Algarve, Tecnovia already has a concrete and bituminous plant in São Bartolomeu de Messines and a production yard in Loulé.
