The 7th Intergovernmental Conference of the 7 States and Communities representing the inscription of the Mediterranean Diet as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO takes place on Friday, the 8th, from 10:00 am, at the Hotel Vila Galé Albacora, in Tavira.

The meeting, of a political and technical nature, is attended by delegations from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Morocco, Croatia, Greece, Cyprus and results in the conclusion of the annual rotating presidency/coordination assured, this year, by Portugal and Tavira.

The meeting, together with the balance of the work developed by each representative State and Community around the safeguard plan, approved by UNESCO, also includes the analysis of proposals for improving the functioning of the international network, as well as new projects and research actions, dynamization and dissemination.

In 2017, the central initiative of the Portuguese coordination was the conference “The cultural heritage of the Mediterranean Diet”, which took place in May at the University of Algarve, with dozens of experts from all UNESCO countries, as well as from different countries. scientific areas related to the Mediterranean diet.

Delegations from participating countries also have the opportunity to visit the Mediterranean Diet Fair, whose fifth edition takes place, between September 07th and 10th, in Tavira.
