Laborinho Lúcio, former Minister of Justice, will speak about education, art and citizenship in a lecture to be held this Friday, September 29, at 15 pm, in the Auditorium of the Paços do Concelho Building, in Lagos.

At the invitation of the Gil Eanes School Group and in a joint organization with the Municipality of Lagos, Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio – jurist, magistrate, university professor, former justice minister and writer – will be in Lagos «to address a topic that is dear to him: active citizenship and democratic culture”, says the City Council.

«Preceding this moment, the author will present, in the morning, at Gil Eanes Secondary School, his latest novel entitled “The Man Who Wrote Azulejos” in a session especially aimed at the school community, where he will also talk to students about education» , he adds.

This is, for the City Council, «a unique opportunity to better understand the thought of this outstanding figure in the national public sphere, the themes of study and reflection that he has deepened in the course of his political, professional and academic life, as well as his most recent incursion into the universe of literature».

Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio, Master in Legal and Civil Sciences from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and career magistrate, is a retired counselor judge of the Supreme Court of Justice.

From January 1990 to April 1996, he successively held the functions of Secretary of State for Judicial Administration, Minister of Justice and Member of the Assembly of the Republic. Between March 2003 and March 2006, he held the position of Minister of the Republic for the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

With civic activity, Laborinho Lúcio is a member of several associations, including APAV and CRESCER-SER, of which he is a founding partner.

With published articles and lectures on topics related to justice, law, education, human rights and citizenship in general, he is the author of books such as “Justice and the Just”, “Palácio da Justiça, Education, Art and Citizenship ”, “The Judgment – ​​A Critical Narrative of Justice” – and, in co-authorship, “Rise the Veil”.

He also published two novels: “O Chamador” (2014) and “O Homem Que Ecria Azulejos” (2016). Awarded by the King of Spain with the Grand Cross of the Order of São Raimundo de Penaforte, and by the President of the Portuguese Republic with the Grand Cross of the Order of Christ, he is a member of the International Academy of Portuguese Culture, currently exercising the functions of President of the General Council of the University of Minho.
