The ceremony to hand over the Jardim Sul do Palácio de Estoi to the Municipality, at 18:30 pm, and the inauguration of the Gorjões road, after redevelopment, at 17:00 pm, are initiatives foreseen in the commemorations of the Municipality Day of Faro, which is marked this Thursday, 7th of September.
to the Chamber of Faro, these are «inaugurations of great symbolism and importance for the council», to which is also added the unveiling of the memorial to the Combatants of the Overseas War, scheduled for 18:00.
Even before the 7th, but already included in the program, there will be a concert, on Wednesday, September 6th, by “Entre Aspas”, at 22 pm, on the stage at Doca.
The following day, the party begins, as usual, with the flag-raising ceremony, followed by the solemn session, at 9:45 am, in the City Hall, "which this year pays a fair tribute to the county's nine individuals and communities", says the camera of Faro.
Namely: António Justo (ARPI, posthumously), António Branco (rector of UAlg), Diogo Piçarra (musician), Gym Club Farense, Joaquim Arenga (EDP Group), João Maria Larguto Claro (doctor, former clinical director of the Hospital in Faro), José Sousa Uva (athletics coach), Regional Council of the Bar Association, District Delegation of the Order of Engineers and Regional Delegation of the Medical Association.
During the session, medals for Good Services and Dedication will also be awarded to municipal employees.
Then follows the unveiling of the toponymic plaque Rua Álvaro Paço, at 12:00, in a tribute to the businessman and benefactor of Conceição de Faro Álvaro dos Santos Calçada Paço. The plaque will be unveiled in the vicinity of the local extension of the Health Center and there will be interventions by Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, and a member of the Paço family.
At 15:00 pm, the official inauguration of the Lusíadas clinic, in Largo do Mercado, is scheduled, followed by the inauguration of a training room at the headquarters of the Humanitarian Association of Firefighters in Faro “Cruz Lusa”, at 16 pm.
On the occasion, interventions are expected from Rogério Bacalhau and Steven Sousa Piedade, as president of the Humanitarian Association.
As for the Gorjões road work, inaugurated at 17 pm, it is part of the “Faro Requalifica”, which “allowed the recovery of the road and shoulders from Santa Bárbara de Nexe to the crossing of Goldra”, says the municipality.
With regard to the memorial to the combatants of the Overseas War, at 18 pm, it will be erected by the Municipality in Jardim Guerreiro da Ângela, in Santa Bárbara de Nexe, in honor of all the soldiers from that parish who lost their lives in the Overseas War.
On the occasion, a book of images and memorabilia of all the soldiers deployed in the war will also be presented, written by nexense José Coelho Mestre, with the support of the local authority.
In turn, the ceremony of handing over to the Municipality of Jardim Sul of the Palácio de Estoi, will allow this space to reopen for the public to enjoy. Currently, the Palace is a Pousada da Enatur, which underwent adaptation and expansion works with a project signed by the architect Gonçalo Byrne and the landscape architect João Cerejeiro. The cession of the building to Enatur implied the restoration of Jardim Sul on its part.
At 21 pm, there will be the unveiling of a plaque in honor of António Justo, next to the ARPI Garden. «Dedicating himself to that association for more than 30 years, António Justo was chairman of the board for more than 23 years when, without anything to predict, he died of a sudden illness», says the municipality of Faro.
«The death of this man, who gave his all to the cause of the elderly in the municipality, moved everyone and motivated the municipality's determination, one year after his death, to perpetuate his name with the work he helped build », he adds.
On this occasion, interventions are expected from Rogério Bacalhau and José Apolinário, president of the Municipal Assembly, as well as a representative of ARPI's governing bodies.
Finally, music on the stage at Doca, at 22 pm, in charge of Afonso Dias' project, “Andanças e cantorias”. Admission is free.
