Students in the 1st cycle of the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António will receive free card books, given by the City Council.

According to Conceição Cabrita, vice president of the municipality, “the offer of books and material will benefit more than 750 students and represents the acquisition of around 2500 books, helping families to overcome the financial difficulties experienced especially at the beginning of the school year. ».

In parallel, the municipality will invest 150 euros in teaching material for each of the 50 pre-school and first cycle classrooms.

According to the City Council, VRSA «will continue to be the only municipality in the Algarve to offer, totally free of charge, the family support component, namely the extension of hours for pre-school students».

«Also thinking about the quality of education, the local authority will offer transport for a study visit to all classes in the first cycle and pre-school». To this is added the «total coverage of vacancies in the pre-school network, putting an end to the waiting lists».

There will also be support in force in the field of meals, transport, human resources and maintenance of the school park, which totals an overall investment of around 1,5 million in the education sector in this new school year.

As for the School Management System, it will continue to be active, including meal services, and providing parents with an electronic platform (available at www.cm-vrsa.pt) where all doubts relating to the municipal education system can be clarified.

Regarding social support in the first cycle, the City Council plans to help more than 300 students, in the case of grade A, and about 200 students, in the case of grade B.

1st level students will be entitled to 20 euros for school material, while 2nd level students will benefit from 10 euros for school material.

As for school meals, the full amount will be paid to students in the 1st cycle and pre-school education in the 1st level and 50% subsidy for students at these levels of education in the 2nd level.

As far as school transport is concerned, it will be free until the 9th grade. For secondary school students in the 1st level it will also be available at no cost, while in the 2nd level it is covered by 75% by the municipality. The remaining students have a 50% contribution.

At the same time, special routes will be made daily, with municipal vehicles, to transport students residing in rural areas not served by public transport.

At the service of the school community will also be the three “Internet Spaces” councils (Vila Real de Santo António, Cacela and Monte Gordo), as well as school libraries, which are operating in conjunction with the Municipal Library Vicente Campinas.

In addition to these aspects, there is the work of the teams of psychologists from the VRSA City Council (NEIP) who, throughout the school year, and totally free of charge, work in conjunction with students, teachers and guardians.

In parallel, the municipality also has several school sports programs, such as the “Já sei nar” project, which, in recent years, has taught more than a thousand children to swim.
