41.922 people watched «with great emotion» the races of the World Superbike event, which took place from 15th to 17th September, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA).

This was a weekend «in which history was made, with the victory of Ana Carrasco, the first woman to win a World Championship in motorcycling, and Jonathan Rea to stand out in Superbikes, climbing to the podium in both races», says the AIA.

The tenth round of the World Superbike Championship, which after a year of absence returned to the Algarve circuit for the ninth time, welcomed thousands of visitors of various nationalities during the three days of the event, who strongly joined the invitation.

For Paulo Pinheiro, CEO of Parkalgar, responsible for the AIA, «it was an excellent weekend». “The number of spectators who passed by our circuit during the three days of the event surprised us and surpassed our expectations”, he said.

"I feel enormous pride in the AIA team, which, despite being small, managed to provide everyone who visited us with an unforgettable race weekend," he added.

«It was proven that our bet on the return of the Superbike World Championship to our circuit was well received by the public and that it was worth the effort. We know that there are aspects to improve at an organizational level and that is our biggest concern for the next year, to make the event stronger and more exciting», he said.

«We are grateful for the presence of Miguel Oliveira, who was one of the highlights of this weekend and, of course, thank you for the presence of all the enthusiasts of the sport, who helped us make this race a success. I think we all deserved it,” he concluded.

In a round where the victory of the first woman in a World Championship stands out, Ana Carrasco took the first position from Alfonso Coppola, in the last meters, after a very intense Supersport 300 race.

The victory in the Supersport class was also much discussed. After Jules Cluzel and Lucas Mahias had passed through the leadership as Jacobsen, Kenan Sofuoglu, climbed to the first place in the eighth period and never left the first place even under pressure by Lucas Mahias.

In the Superstock 1000, Toprak Razgatlioglu won the European Championship event where the Turk was at a different level to win with a comfortable advantage against Florian Marino and Maximilian Scheib, his podium companions.

«Closing the day and the weekend, Jonathan Rea was once again unstoppable and won for the 11th time in the championship – fifth in a row at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve – after taking the lead in the second of the 20 laps of the race, he who started in ninth position”, concludes the AIA.
