A woman, suspected of starting two forest fires in the Conceição de Tavira area on 22 July and 16 August, was detained by the Judiciary Police (PJ).
The 39-year-old detainee will have set the fires due to the “depressive stage in which she finds herself”, says the PJ.
This was an arrest made by the Southern Directorate of the Judiciary Police.
One of the fires in question "consumed a vast area of bush and stone pine, having not taken on greater proportions given the prompt intervention of local firefighters", adds the PJ.
The woman, resident in the area where the fires were set, will be brought before the court to apply the coercive measures.
This year, the Judiciary Police "has already identified and detained 76 people for committing the crime of forest fire."
