the parish of Monte Gordo will have a post of the National Republican Guard (GNR). Confirmation was given by Isabel Oneto, Deputy Secretary of State and Internal Administration, to Luís Gomes, Mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, this Thursday, 3 August, during a working visit to the council.

«The new equipment is intended to increase proximity policing in what is one of the main tourist areas in the Algarve and, in the summer months, its population more than quintupled», says the Vila Real de Santo António Town Council.

For Luís Gomes, "the measure responds to the wishes of residents and merchants and is a goal long sought after by the municipality."

«This decision results from the joint work developed between the municipality and the Government and shows the important role of the parish of Monte Gordo in the context of Algarve tourism, insofar as we are contributing to the feeling of security of all who choose us as a holiday destination», he added.

During the visit to the municipality of Vila Real, «the Assistant Secretary of State and of the Internal Administration also learned about the current status of the process of requalification of the PSP squadron in Vila Real de Santo António, a project that should move forward soon», concludes the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António.
