Five foreign bathers were saved yesterday, at the end of the afternoon, from drowning on the beaches of the coast of Vila do Bispo.

The first case took place in a sea area between the beaches of Castelejo and Cordoama, around 17:50, when a woman and three children, all Austrian nationals, were caught by an agueiro and dragged, eventually being taken out of the water in a situation. of pre-drowning.

All were transported to the Hospital de Portimão alive, but the mother, 52 years old, was in critical condition.

O Sul Informação found that the victims were rescued from the water by lifeguards from the two beaches and by firefighter Vando Gonçalves, who was close to the site.

The four elements of the tourist family were stabilized on the spot by the INEM team, which sent SIV de Lagos and VMER from Portimão to the site, with the support of the Vila do Bispo Fire Brigade and an ambulance supporting the Lagos Fire Brigade . The Maritime Police coordinated operations at the site.

The other case involved a 25-year-old Spanish swimmer who was swimming about 200 meters from the beach when he had a serious shoulder problem.

As it was not possible to rescue him from land, it was Sagres' lifeguard that was eventually sent to rescue the swimmer. Transported to the port of Baleeira, he was then taken by the firefighters from Vila do Bispo to the hospital in Portimão.
