The athlete Ana Cabecinha, from Clube Oriental do Pechão, reached this Sunday the best mark of this season in the 20 km march of the World Athletics Championships, in London, a result that made up for the fact that she was out of the podium.

The athlete from Algarve finished the race in 6th place, with a time of 1:28.57 hours. The race was won by Chinese Jiayu Yang, who became world champion with a time of 1:26.19, followed by Mexican Maria Guadalupe González (silver medal), and Italian Antonella Palmisano (bronze).

"It was the best mark this season, after a week I had, due to having my father hospitalized, and it was very difficult to manage emotions", he explained, at the end of the race. "I only competed because he got better and I competed for him," he explained, confessing that "my head wasn't completely here."

Ana Cabecinha's best mark for this season was 1:29.44, while her personal record remains at 1:27.46, a time that is also the national record recorded at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

Cabecinha, 33, had been 4th at the 2015 Worlds and 6th at the Rio2016 Olympic Games, the same place she finished at the 2014 European Championships.

As for the medal, Ana Cabecinha guaranteed that “it's for another championship, it's just to keep trying”.

The 6th place for the athlete born in Beja, but raised in the Algarve, came a few hours after Inês Henriques became world champion of the 50 km Marcha, at the London World Championships, beating the world record, which, incidentally, had belonged to her since January .
