Tuition fees at the University of Algarve will not increase in the 2017/18 school year. UAlg's General Council rejected a proposal to increase the annual amount paid by undergraduate and master's students and for those who attend Higher Technical Professionals (TeSP) courses, which means that tuition fees will only be subject to adjustment with the inflation rate, which will be 0,6%.

The proposal, which was submitted to a vote at the General Council meeting of the Algarve university that took place yesterday, Tuesday, «foresees the setting of the tuition fee for the next academic year at 995 euros (an increase in the order of 25 euros), according to respect for degrees, integrated masters and the minimum value for masters, as well as a value of 650 euros (an increase of around 61 euros), with regard to Higher Professional Technical Courses (TeSP)", according to the Academic Association from UAlg, who welcomed the decision.

This was, in the view of AAUAlg, a result closely linked to the efforts of student representatives in this university's governing body.

“The six elements representing the students, aware of their responsibility to defend the interests of UAlg students, united in defense of the non-approval of the proposal to increase tuition fees. The position of the six students was based on the writing of a position paper, drawn up together, as well as on the Motion approved in the previous year at the AAUAlg Magna Assembly», according to the association.

The rector's proposal was launched after a "long and intense discussion by the elements of the UAlg General Council," he added.

«This is how, for the next school year, the continuous lack of responsibility of the State for the education of citizens is stopped, which would cause an increase in costs for UAlg students and their families, as well as those who intend to enter Public University Education in the Algarve» , concluded the UAlg student representatives.
