During the summer, the Algarve will have more INEM emergency resources available, according to a protocol signed this Monday, 17 July, at the Algarve's Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), in Faro. The objective is to “strengthen the capacity to respond to situations of accident or sudden illness, in a region that sees its population grow considerably”.

Alcoutim will be assigned an INEM ambulance. At the same ceremony, a protocol was signed to set up a Medical Emergency Post in the Alcoutim Voluntary Fire Department.

Thus, and with the exception of the municipality of Castro Marim, which does not have a Fire Service or Portuguese Red Cross, INEM thus enables the entire municipality of the Algarve with an ambulance.

This will allow “to provide pre-hospital care to the population of the municipality, reinforcing pre-hospital medical assistance in situations of accident or sudden illness”, says INEM.

Some of the means that integrate the seasonal reinforcement device have been in operation since June 1st and will continue until September 30th.

«Thus, to the existing device for the rest of the year, comprising 37 medical emergency resources available at all times, the seasonal reinforcement of INEM's resources foresees another seven ambulances and two motorcycles», says INEM.

And how are they distributed? An ambulance for help: Cruz Vermelha de Portimão, from Tavira, based in Altura (Castro Marim), from Faro-Loulé, based in Almancil, and for the Volunteer Firefighters of Portimão and Albufeira.

To this are added two more aid ambulances for the Albufeira-Silves Red Cross, headquartered in Ferreiras and Armação de Pêra, respectively, a medical emergency motorcycle for the INEM in Portimão and another, but relief, for the Volunteer Firefighters from Albufeira.

According to INEM, the «decision to strengthen the emergency resources available to the population in the Algarve region, is based on a detailed analysis of events in this region. Even so, as the available data show, the increase in population during the summer period does not have a proportional increase in the number of requests to INEM, but justifies the need to carry out regional adjustments to improve the response capacity».

For this reason, and on the occasion of the 36th International Motorbike Concentration, INEM will also start operating on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of July, in Faro, plus an immediate life support ambulance and another medical emergency motorcycle.

«INEM cannot fail to thank the Fire Brigade and Portuguese Red Cross for their ability, in close coordination with INEM's resources, to provide an effective response with regard to pre-hospital medical care and to collaborate in the effort to strengthen the implemented device. to ensure greater security for all who choose the Algarve for their holidays», concludes the statement.
