Celina Carpinteiro, from the women's team 5Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira, was crowned this Sunday, July 2nd, national champion in the elite category, imposing herself in the Road Championship, played in Castelo de Vide.

The elite race, with 106,8 kilometres, turned out to be an elimination race, with the peloton losing elements back to back.

The formation 5 Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira proved to be the most powerful, managing to occupy the podium completely.

Celina Carpinteiro won, with 3h30m21s, followed closely by Irina Coelho, with the same time, and by Madalena Almeida, at three seconds. This was the fourth national title in the elite category won by Celina Carpinteiro, who had already won in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

«Each title is special: each one has a story. Today's is special because it means the recovery of a shirt, in what is probably the year I feel better, something that can only be achieved with a lot of work. The fact that the level has been increasing in women's cycling motivates us more to work», says Celina Carpinteiro.

The runner also highlights the achievement of the team, which got all the places on the elite podium. “It was a goal we had. Although we knew it was ambitious, it proved achievable”, declares the winner of the main race.

As for Maria Martins (Bairrada) she remains unstoppable in the junior category. After the conclusive triumph in the time trial, today he won the long distance race, 80,1 kilometers, with 2h37m40s. It was followed by Marta Branco (Maiatos/Reabnorte), at 14 seconds, and by Diana Fortes (Alcobaça CC/Crédito Agrícola), at two minutes.

Daniela Campos (5Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira) confirmed her favoritism in the 53,4 kilometers of the cadet race. The athlete won alone, with 1h42m37s, leaving the second placed, Rafaela Ramalho (Maiatos/Reabnorte), at 1m04s. The third, at 1m34s, was Joana Pereira (5Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira).

The race master began to define itself in the first of two laps of the 26,7 km circuit. Raquel Marques (ASC/Focus Team/Vila do Conde), Elisete Sousa (5Quinas/Municipality) and Ângela Gonçalves (BTT Seia) broke away from the peloton and discussed the race between them.

On the approach to the finish, Raquel Marques isolated herself and joined the long distance title to the time trial, after 1h40m08s. Elisete Sousa was second, at eight seconds, and Ângela Gonçalves was third, at 23 seconds.
