Tiago Ferreira, from DMT Racing Team, with the national marathon title (XCM), and Celina Carpinteiro, who was also champion, in the Elite Women, were the big winners of two races held this Sunday, June 11, in Loulé.

Celina Carpinteiro (BTT Loulé/BPI/Elevis) completed the race in 4 hours, 15 minutes and 10 seconds, beating her opponent Liliana Jesus (BTT Seia) with a wide margin of 18 minutes. Irina Coelho (Freebike Shop / Bike Clube S. Brás) was ranked third.

Tiago Ferreira, in winning the fourth national title in the specialty, did not avoid a mistake on the course, before resuming the race on the right track and surpassing his main rival in the race: Minho David Vaz.

On the podium, Tiago Ferreira celebrated in the company of David Vaz (Gnauk / King Gates / Blisq Creative) and Davide Machado (BTT Seia), who were, respectively, second and third placed.

“It was a heat-hardened and selective test from the start. In the Algarve, marathons, as a rule, have short but very steep climbs and lots of rock. I managed to isolate myself early on, but I suffered a mistake and lost some time, which forced me to run after the loss. From the third supply I raced with David Vaz and, on the last climb, I managed to make the difference and arrive alone», described Tiago Ferreira, who on the 25th of June defends in Singen (Germany) the world title of XCM won in the last year.

“This title of national champion is a sign that I'm in good shape, especially because of the recovery I had to make during the race. I am satisfied with this physical condition, but I still have 15 days of work ahead of me. The Worlds is an open race and I hope to get there in the best condition and, on that day, to give my best and get a good result», predicted the current holder of the maximum title in the discipline, won last year in Laissac (France).

At the time, the viseense finished the 90 kilometers with 19 seconds less than second placed, the Austrian Alban Lakata.
