The Ministry of Health will arrange for the «immediate placement of 24 nurses and some other health professionals» at the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (CMR) in the South, Minister Adalberto Campos Ferreira assured this Monday at a meeting he held with mayors from São Brás de Alportel and employees of the health unit located in this municipality.

According to the City Council of São Brás de Alportel, the means that will be made available "are absolutely necessary for the Center to function fully, allowing this unit to resume internment, in all its beds." "This procedure under an extraordinary regime, will be developed by the Regional Health Administration, through the Centro Hospital do Algarve", added the municipality.

Like Sul Informação made first-hand progress, the health minister summoned the mayors of São Brás de Alportel to a meeting in Lisbon, which took place yesterday, June 5th. The invitation was made through a phone call to the president of the São Brasense Chamber, who extended it to the vice president of the socialist executive, the president of the Parish Council of São Brás (PS) and representatives of those elected to the Municipal Assembly of the PS and PSD, as well as CMR South professionals.

Outside, were the social-democratic councilors of São Brás de Alportel, who have already expressed their indignation at the fact that, allegedly, their presence was refused by the São Brasense mayor and that he was chosen to accompany the entourage Tiago Silva, who ran on the PSD lists for the AM in 2013 but "did not get elected nor did he ever participate in any Assembly."

At the meeting in which the PSD guarantees that it has not been represented, the minister will also have assured that the approval of the decree-law that will create the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA), where CMR Sul will be integrated, is yet to be approved. «as a Public Business Entity (EPE), endowed with the autonomy necessary for its full functioning, as before», according to the Chamber.

On Saturday, the president of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve Paulo Morgado stated to Sul Informação who hoped that this decree would be approved by the Council of Ministers in June.

For the person in charge of the entity that manages the NHS in the Algarve, the creation of CHUA will be fundamental to solve this and other problems that affect the health sector in the region.

As stated at the same time by Paulo Morgado, who also accompanied the delegation that went to Lisbon, like the director of the center Arminda Lopes and four health professionals from this unit, the meeting served to reassure mayors and workers.

Adalberto Campos Fernandes said that the closure of the CMR Sul «can never be resolved», considering that it is a «pearl of health in the country» and gave the Algarve ARS carte blanche «to implement all the necessary steps for the installation missing professionals as this is the main cause of constraints to the full functioning of the unit'.

The PSD, on the other hand, says that this is "a problem whose resolution has already been announced several times and now it is no longer possible to hide, as the CMR South is in a situation of urgent rupture."

As for the solution found by the ARS do Algarve to fill the departure of three nurses, according to the Social Democrats, it is necessary to make available «a nurse from the CHA who goes “when he can”». "We remind those who are forgotten that, of the 54 beds in the centre, only 18 are being used due to the lack of nurses", added the PSD/São Brás de Alportel.
