On the 7th of July, starting at 9:30 am, the Municipality of Lagos presents the “Municipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change”, in a session taking place in the Auditorium of Paços do Concelho Século XXI.

This plan will define a «strategy for local adaptation to climate change and an action plan to make it operational, reducing the vulnerability of the territory and promoting its adaptation and resilience», explains the municipality.

The territory corresponding to the municipality of Lagos, due to its southern and coastal location, "will face major challenges in the future as a result of climate change, with significant implications for natural, social and economic systems to be expected", he adds.

For this reason, the Câmara de Lagos says that it demands "the rapid definition of an adaptive response that reduces its current and future vulnerability".

In this session, the concrete objectives of this plan will be presented, «and good adaptation practices will be shared at the regional level, aiming to start the process of participation of regional and local strategic actors in its elaboration», he adds.

«Through this process – for whose success the involvement of mayors and technicians from the municipality will be fundamental, as well as the contributions of strategic actors from the municipality and the region and the articulation with the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve – construction will begin an adaptive path to climate change,” he explains.

The preparation of the Plan has the collaboration of CEDRU (Center for Regional and Urban Studies and Development) and is co-financed by POSEUR 2014/20 – Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources.
